Using Your Tupelo Honey To The Fullest

by Salvador Hill

Tupelo honey is incredibly delicious, and it does come with a pretty high price tag. So, when you have a jar in your kitchen, you really want to use it to its fullest. This is not the kind of honey you want to bake into a cake or hide in a complex smoothie. Here are a few simpler ways to use it and really feature its flavor and complexity.

Make Honey Lemonade

Honey and lemon are two flavors that pair together really well. Tupelo honey's light, floral flavor pairs especially well with lemon since it adds a different layer of taste. You can make your own honey lemonade with just three ingredients: honey, lemon juice, and cold water. Stir about two tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of honey into a tall glass of water, and add some ice. Taste the mixture, and adjust it to suit your tastes. You can add extra honey if it's not sweet enough, and extra lemon if it's not tart enough.

Spread it on Toast

People traditionally put jam on toast, but honey has a similar sweet flavor to jam. You can spread about a teaspoon of Tupelo honey on a piece of whole wheat toast for a nice breakfast. If you want the snack to be a bit richer, you can spread a little butter on the toast before you add the honey. Of course, you can do the same thing with biscuits — a smear of butter and a drizzle of honey makes them incredible.

Drizzle it on Fruit

Drizzling Tupelo honey over fruit is a really great way to enjoy it. Sometimes fruit is tasty but not quite as sweet as you would like, and honey can fix that. Tupelo honey is a good choice for this purpose because it has those floral notes that contrast the fruit. It's especially great on tart, green apples and on strawberries. You can even make a whole fruit salad with just chopped fruit and Tupelo honey.

Pair it With Mild Cheese

Mild, creamy cheese and Tupelo honey just pair together so wonderfully. Havarti, Monterrey Jack, and fresh mozzarella are all good choices. You don't have to put the honey on the cheese, although that is an option. Take a little taste of honey, and then a bite of cheese.

Tupelo honey is such a unique and delicious variety of honey. You deserve to enjoy it to the fullest.
